Rainbow Unit- Green Class Week 11

It has been a busy week for Green class. This week, we have been listening to songs that are linked in with some phonics sounds and all of the children have sat at the table to listen to this. Some children have completed an alphabet puzzle and some letter matching games, using the core board or communication board to indicate ‘more’ when doing this. We have continued our pencil control activities, with all children completing multiple pieces of work, showing some good progress of their fine motor skills.

Rainbow Unit-Yellow Class Week 11

This week in Yellow Class, it has been a busy one!
The children have been exploring independently lots of activities in the classroom, this is lovely to see as the children are taking ownership of their “choose time” and finding activities they enjoy which are they are staying engaged in for a longer period of time.
This weeks Maths activity was a shape sorting activity, feeding the shapes into the correct holes- children enjoyed this very much!
It has been a cold week this week and the children are tolerating us dressing them in warmer clothing to embrace the playground at lunchtime.
We have been using the interactive screen to play online games, and inviting the children to take part if they choose to.

Rainbow Unit- Green Class Week 10

This week in Green Class the children have been further progressing their understanding of different maths and colour activities and have been choosing them during choose time. The children show a lot of interest in the colour sorting activities, including the stacking activity and sorting the pictures by colour. They have also been showing interest in the maths activities and have been growing their understanding of numbers from one to ten. We are so proud of the progress they are making π
We’ve also continued with our Sensory Song and Sensory Story which the children in Green Class really enjoy!

Rainbow Unit- Yellow Class Week 10

In the Yellow Class, we have had a very busy week! Sensory Song is now a consistent lesson in our room, we have built up to this and all children now come to the table and stay willingly for most of the session, some staying for all and some needing support, but we have come a long way!
We have also introduced a new colour sorting activity after our maths lesson, once again the children have LOVED this.
We have taken part in some painting and creative activities too!

Rainbow Unit- Green Class Week 9

This week in Green Class we have fully introduced our ‘We’re going on a bear hunt’ sensory story. All of the children have shown such interest and engagement in the story and sensory experiences. The sensory aspects include things like splashing in water, pressing their fingers in slime, touching ice and feeling the teddy bear, all lead by an adult. The children will learn and associate different sensory experiences with parts of the book. All of the children have enjoyed this and shown so much anticipation for the next part of the story. This week we have also been painting which they enjoying more and more every time. We have been doing dough disco this week too which the children always love.

Rainbow Unit- Yellow Class Week 9

This week in Yellow Class the children have enjoyed taking part in sensory song. The children are becoming more engaged every time we do this! Well done Yellow Class! π
We have also been concentrating on our maths lessons this week. The children enjoyed listening to our maths nursery rhyme (5 little frogs πΈ). This is always followed by a maths activity. We have used a cause and effect spiral tower where the children had to push the ball through the hole and watch it go down. All the children enjoyed this activity!! π

This week, in both the Yellow and Green class, the children have settled back into school routines really well.
It has taken time to regain engagement in lessons but we have improved over the week.
We have been concentrating on fine motors activities, sticker art, jigsaws and a creative activity of ripping, and sticking to celebrate Bonfire Night π₯ . The children enjoyed this a lot and we will send these home tonight for you to keep π

Rainbow Unit- Yellow Class Week 6

This week in the Yellow Class, we have been busy! We have been doing lots of colour sorting and jigsaws! The children have been persevering at the task for longer and longer which has been lovely to see!
The children impressed us very much with the knowledge of colours and sorting them in different ways.

Rainbow Unit- Green Class Week 6

This week in Green class, we have been continuing with our shape theme and colour sorting activities. All of the children are becoming much more confident with this and are showing increased amount of engagement with these activities. We have slowly been introducing new colours and shapes for the children to recognise and some of them are beginning to be able to do this.
This week, we have also done some mark making using water colours. Lots of the children enjoyed exploring the paint using the paint brush or their fingers. Some children needed a little bit more reassurance and allowed an adult to use hand over hand support to complete this π

Rainbow Unit- Green Class Week 5

We are so proud of all the children in Green class. This week, we have been continuing to practice our pencil control and we have seen all children take part in this with less adult support than in previous weeks.
We have also introduced some fine motor activities, including a coloured peg board. It has been great to see some of the children copying the picture cards and others creating their own patterns.
We have been practicing our turn taking whilst completing our activities this week and some of the children are showing patience and fleeting eye contact whilst waiting for their turn which is great to see.

Rainbow Unit- Yellow Class Week 5

In the Yellow Class this week, we have been continuing with our routines of sensory circuits, snack and Bucket Therapy in our daily timetable.
The children have been improving at following objects of reference for these activities and have also been improving at sitting at the table for a prolonged period of time for both snack and Bucket Therapy.
This week we introduced bubbles into our bucket session, all the children enjoyed these very much and showed sustained looking and listening. We used key words such as “more” and “finished”.

Rainbow Unit- Green Class Week 4

This week has been super busy for the children in Green class. This week we have been sorting objects by colour and shape. The children are becoming much more confident in this. The children have also been taking part in sensory song. This is where we listen to a song and a sensory experience such as bubbles or blowing a balloon up are led by an adult. This is working on anticipation skills as over time, the children will associate the different songs with that sensory experience. All of the children have loved this and have shown great engagement in this session which we are very proud of them for.

Rainbow Unit- Yellow Class Week 4

In the yellow class this week, we introduced a new friend into our class, Gabriella! π
We have had another busy week exploring activities, staff have been engaging with the children whilst doing so. It’s so nice that we have all already built great relationships and the children are tolerating us in their space more π
This week we have introduced Bucket Therapy into our timetable, this is a group activity that enhances the children’s anticipation skills, we are so proud of the children for coming and sitting at the table together for this.

Rainbow Unit- Green Class Week 3

This week has been another busy week for the children in the Green class. We have seen lots of the children showing us longer levels of engagement with different activities particularly in our colour sorting activities. We have also seen some children becoming more familiar with the core board to request more and others continuing to build confidence when using the communication board. This week we have introduced some mark making and pencil control activities. All of the children have really enjoyed this and have been exploring using different hands to complete this.

Rainbow Unit- Yellow Class Week 3

This week in yellow class, it’s been another busy week! We have been exploring more of our cause and effect toys and some of the children have been allowing adults in engage in their play- only on their terms though!
The children are definitely becoming more familiar with objects of reference, walking independently towards the hall door at lunchtime and sitting down at the table at snack time! You will see from the photos the children all sit for snack and remain seated for the entire snack time! This is very good! We are very proud of them!

Rainbow Unit- Green Class Week 2

We have had a very busy week in Green class. This week we have been continuing to introduce the children to a range of sensory experiences including sensory circuits and sensory song. All of the children have really enjoyed this and we have seen increasing amounts of engagement as the week has progressed. We have also been introducing some colour sorting activities using a communication board for the children to request more when they are ready to move onto the next colour.
With the weather changing over this last week, please if you have not already done so could you send a spare change of clothes, wellies and a puddle suit into school with your child’s name on it. Our school grounds are getting muddy and we don’t want any of the children’s uniforms to get ruined.

Rainbow Unit- Yellow Class Week 2

This week in the yellow class, we have introduced sensory circuits into our timetable!
We do sensory circuits in the school hall. Not only have we introduced sensory circuits, we have introduced the objects of reference for it and one for back into the classroom. The children have responded really well to these!
The children have continued to explore the resources within the classroom, they have especially enjoyed the peanut ball and the trampoline. This week we have had a few sleepy children, getting used to being back at school, who have sneaked in a nap or two π΄π

Rainbow Unit- Green Class Week 1

What an amazing first full week the children in Green Class (Mrs Henwood) have had!
The children have settled back into our school routine well and have all been following objects of reference to transition around the resource base. This week we have been completing a shape sorting activity and focusing on the children requesting more either using a core board or communication board. We have also had lots of fun playing with the sand in our outside area.
Happy Bithday to Khairav for today!All the children are coming home with a bag of cookies and some sweets!

Rainbow Unit- Yellow Class Week 1

This week in the Yellow Class (Miss Abbott) we have been exploring our new classroom!
The children have settled in beautifully and have investigated all our resources and had fun doing it! Some children have been making themselves at home by taking off their shoes and socks!
The children have also enjoyed the outside area, especially the sand pit!
We have introduced core boards, and communication boards at snack time and for some activities. Some children are fleetingly noticing these, which is a great start!
Really proud of them all!
A big happy birthday to Khairav in the Green Class, you will notice some Haribo and Cookies in your child’s bag, these are from him! Thank you Khairav! π

This week the children have LOVED the water tray! The adults even ended up needing to dry in the heat, even though we didn’t play in the water!

What another lovely sunny week!
In the Rainbow Unit this week, we have been taking part in lots of intensive interaction! We have been following some movements on the screen, playing with lots of cause and effect toys and being creative!
One day we did an adult led activity with mirrors, the children loved looking at themselves and pulling funny faces!
Some children have been continuing with phonics and maths activities and have been doing so well! Many jigsaws have been played with and lots of physical activity outside in the warm weather!
