Safeguarding

Safeguarding is the action taken to promote the welfare of children and protect them from harm. Safeguarding means: protecting children from abuse and maltreatment. Preventing harm to children's health or development. Ensuring children grow up with the provision of safe and effective care. (NSPCC)

St Basil's is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. We have a number of policies and procedures in place that contribute to our safeguarding commitment, including our Child Protection Policy which can be viewed in the Policies section of our website.

Sometimes we may need to share information and work in partnership with other agencies when there are concerns about a child's welfare. We will ensure that our concerns about our pupils are discussed with his/her parents/carer first unless we have reason to believe that such a move would be contrary to the child's welfare.

Our Designated Senior Person for Child Protection (DSPCP) is:

Mrs A.M Sheppard (Headteacher)

Our Deputy DSPCP are:

Mrs J O'Donnell (Deputy Headteacher) and Mrs H McCabe (SENCo)

Our Designated Governor for Safeguarding is:

Mr J. Duffy

If you have any safeguarding concerns please contact on of the above mentioned members of staff. If your concern is related to an adult working within the school please contact Mrs Sheppard. If your concern related to the Headteacher please contact the Chair of Governors, Mr J Duffy.

Operation Encompass

St Basil's works alongside the police and local authority as part of a project called Operation Encompass, this is an initiative designed to provide early reporting of any domestic violence incidents that occur outside school, which might have an impact on a child in school.

Following such an incident a phone call will be made to one of the Key Adults within the school (Mrs Sheppard, Mrs O'Donnell or Mrs McCabe). Key Adults have been trained to liaise with the police and to use the information that has been shared, in confidence.

The purpose of the information sharing is to ensure schools have more information to support safeguarding of their pupils. By knowing that the child has had this experience, the school is in a better position to understand and be supportive of the child's needs and possible behaviours.

Pastoral Support at St Basil's

We attach great importance to the pastoral care we offer our pupils. The school has a Parent Pastoral Manager/Family Liaison who you can contact with any issues related to attendance, parenting or if an issue arises at home which might affect your child in school. All information of this nature will be treated in the strictest confidence.
