Curriculum Intent

At St Basil’s, our intention for the physical education curriculum is as follows:

  • to develop children’s fundamental knowledge so they can apply it to a variety of physical education activities in order to develop their competence as athletes
  • to develop and encourage children’s knowledge of ways to live a healthy lifestyle, in order to secure their understanding of what it means to have a healthy body, mind and soul.
  • to encourage and give opportunity for children to build character and embed key values of fair play, sportsmanship, team work through our school rules of being respectful, proud and safe.
  • to nurture and promote a lifelong enjoyment and engagement with physical activity and sport through an adaptive, engaging and holistic approach.
  • to expose children to a range of competitive and co-operative activities and sports that give opportunity to learn to lead, communicate and compete.
