Curriculum Intent
At St. Basil's, we consider that every student should be inspired and equipped with an excellent computing curriculum to apply computational thinking and creativity to understand and improve our society and the world around them. There are close connections between science, mathematics, design, and technology in computing. St. Basil's Catholic Primary School's curriculum aims to provide children with the skills they need to use technology effectively, safely, and creatively in all areas. As practitioners, we strive to be equipped to provide our pupils with a high-quality curriculum that is engaging, challenging, and relevant to their environment, all while ensuring progress during their time at St. Basil's. Children will be digitally literate thanks to our computing education, which will enable them to use information and communication technology to express themselves and develop their ideas. Our computer education programme, Purple Mash, will prepare the pupils for both life in modern Britain and the professions they will eventually pursue.
At St Basil’s Catholic Primary School, we teach our Computing through a scheme called Purple Mash. Purple Mash is an online platform which provides tools and resources for teaching every aspect of the Computing curriculum from years 1 to 6. Teachers are able to set tasks and lessons for individual children to complete and they access these through their own log ins. Purple Mash can be accessed through both laptops and iPads. Purple Mash also has a tool for Early Years Foundation Stage called Mini Mash.
Aims of our computing curriculum:
To ensure that all pupils:
-can understand and apply the fundamental principles and concepts of computer science, including abstraction, logic, algorithms and data representation
-can analyse problems in computational terms, and have repeated practical experience of writing computer programs in order to solve such problems
-can evaluate and apply information technology, including new or unfamiliar technologies, analytically to solve problems
-are responsible, competent, confident and creative users of information and communication technology.
