Welcome to 2SL & 2KW!
We hope you have all had a lovely Christmas and would like to wish you a happy new year. As we start the new term we wish to remind you of some important information regarding your child’s time in year two.
We will continue to provide the children with a home reading book and this will be changed when their current book has been read. It is really important that your child reads to somebody at home, for a short time each evening to help them develop confidence and fluency . Please sign and date their reading record book each time and remember to send their reading book to school every day. Any comments you wish to add will be most welcome. The children will continue to join in group reading sessions but we cannot stress enough the significance to a child’s development and learning home reading has.
Learning Challenge homework will be given for the half term and each week you need to follow the described task. Learning Challenge homework books will be sent home on a Thursday and to be returned on a Monday. If there are any problems with tasks please come and speak to us or send a little note in with the work. English/Maths homework with be sent home on a Tuesday to be returned on a Thursday. Your child will also bring home a list of spellings each Monday which needs to be returned on a Friday. These are key spelling patterns for year 2 and we ask that you please spend time together preparing for a spelling test on Friday. Any incomplete homework will be completed at lunch times by the child the day it should have been handed in unless discussed with the teacher.
Money e.g. for trips, must be sent into school in an envelope which is clearly marked with the amount, what the money is for, your child’s name and their teacher’s name. Loose money can be lost or mislaid causing problems for children, parents and staff.
The children will do P.E. twice each week, usually on a Wednesday and Friday. P.E. kits will be sent home each half term to be washed. Please return these at the start of the next half term. Please ensure all items of the kit and your child’s uniform are clearly labelled with their name. Outdoor kits can be brought into school for the colder months (jogging bottoms / top).
Please ensure water bottles, with your child’s name on, are in school every day.
If your child needs an inhaler please ensure it is in date and in school. You will need to fill in a form from the school office if your child needs any other medication during school time.
Throughout the school year we will keep you updated on both school and class events. Please check your child’s reading folder each day for any letters – the children will not always remember to tell you!
We look forward to a successful year and hope that your child will continue to enjoy their time in Year Two. Many thanks for your support.
