Design and Technology
Design and Technology acquires children to solve real and relevant problems within a variety of contexts. At St. Basil’s Design and Technology is taught through practical and creative activities using a variety of materials, media and tools. Throughout the year children have the opportunity to design, make, evaluate and master skills and techniques which are then celebrated through displays around the school. During the Early Years Foundation Stage, the essential building blocks of children’s design and technology capability are established through exploration and discussion. In key stage one and key stage two, children are encouraged to generate and develop their purposeful and functional designs through communication, drawing and prototypes. Using a range of media, tools and equipment the children make their products and then evaluate their own and others work and modify where needed deepening their understanding of design and technology.
